Slovakia offers a skilled, cost-competitive Central European workforce, strong in manufacturing and services. All-in employer cost runs around 1.35x the gross salary. Here is what to know before your first Slovak hire.
Employment runs under the Labour Code, with written contracts, regulated working time, and mandatory social and health insurance. Notice and severance both scale with tenure.
The statutory minimum is about β¬750 per month in 2024*, revised annually, with graded coefficients by job level.
Monthly payroll. There is no statutory 13th salary; bonuses are contractual.
There are around 15 public holidays a year, all paid.
A written contract is required. Probation is up to three months (six for managers).
Employer social and health insurance add about 35.2% on top of gross salary.
Most social-insurance components apply up to a monthly maximum assessment base, so very high earners carry a smaller effective percentage.
Employees pay their own social and health share plus a 19% or 25% income tax, withheld at source. Withholding is the employer's responsibility, which under EOR means ours.
Four weeks (20 days) a year, five weeks from age 33 or with a child, under the Labour Code.
34 weeks of maternity leave, longer for single parents or multiples, funded through social insurance.
Parental leave until the child turns three, with a state allowance.
The employer pays the first ten days of illness, after which social insurance takes over.
Notice is one to three months by tenure and must state a statutory ground for open-ended contracts.
Statutory severance of one to five months' pay applies on organisational dismissal, scaled by tenure and combined with notice.
Up to three months (six for managers), with immediate termination during it.
A contractor working like an employee can be reclassified, with back contributions and penalties.
